Christmas sweater give away!

Its that time of the year again. One lucky winner will get a session from me, Sara Henderson. 

My face superimposed on a picture of a Christmas sweater t-shirt that I want.  :)

Christmas 2011

We had such an awesome photo shoot with these two awesome kids. They were so full of energy and ready to try anything to get a fun shot. We captured some really cool shots to surprise their dad with for christmas. Here they are:

Check out these fall colors. I had the awesome opportunity to meet Jackson and his parents at a new park in Gresham. This place was gorgeous and all though it was freezing cold, it didn't rain and we captured some amazing photos.

Preparing for your session...

A lot of people ask me how to prepare for their photo session. Questions like, What do I wear? How are we going to pose? Are the kids going to smile? All very good questions, so here are a few tips that will help you prepare and help me get you some awesome shots.

~ 1~ What do we wear?
The main key is to be comfortable. If you're not comfortable it will show in your photos, so relax and find clothes that you are comfy and show a little of your personal style.
It looks really great if your family matches in some way, but try to stay away from everyone wearing the same colors. You don't want to blend together to much. Patterns and like colors look great together.

~ 2 ~ How are we going to pose?

It can be difficult to find poses that make everyone look natural. I hate doing the photo studio poses where the photographer tells you to tilt your head just so. That's not my style. I'm more of the "Family pile," kind of poser. I like everyone to pile on and act natural. 

I do suggest though, that you do your research. I had a client come to shoot recently totally prepared with a list of poses they wanted to try. We had so much fun getting this family what they wanted, that It felt really natural and the photos came out great. Here is one of them,

If you wish to bring some poses, feel free, I'm totally open to suggestions. A great place to find poses is magazines or one of my all time favorite places is Pinterest. That's where this awesome pose came from.

~ 3 ~ How do we get the kids to smile?

This has got to be one of the hardest things to do some times. Kids don't usually react well to strange people sticking a camera in their face. Not a lot of smiles happen that way.

Before the session, practice smiling with your kids. Find out what words make them laugh, or if they have a favorite toy that makes them smile.

Get them excited to have their picture taken, and I'm even going to say it, bribes sometimes work as well, lol :).

I've known this young lady for a few years now and she has turned in to such a beautiful woman. We had a PheRo photo shoot and then got her some pictures to help her start he portfolio. You did awesome Melissa, can't wait to work with you again.

I have never meet little guys more adorable that weren't my own children. These boys have some big eyes and long lashes to die for, and when they weren't hamming it up they were giving each other some love.

Its always fun to photograph a family again after a few months, just to see how much their kids have grown. This family is awesome and always a joy to shoot. Their little ones are so cute and I've heard that their son will be in a TV commercial in a few months. Way to go kiddo!

A new friend 10-2-2011

Back at the first of the month I got the chance to meet another photographer and her family. Her two little boys were so cute and they quickly made friends with my two boys.

Some adorable twins 9-25-2011

I know i'm a little behind on my blog post, but I'll try to do better and do them in batches.

My first chance to photograph twins was so much fun. I got to meet these little cuties last month at Cathedral Park in Saint Johns, Oregon. They had just learned to sit up on their own so we had a few spills, but we got some really fun shots.
